Despite all the media bluster over our leadership which detracted from our achievements - TATA Steel, Employment Sickness Allowance, our new approach to Parliamentary Question Time where Cameron is forced to respond to the people of this country - we have done well. Just waiting now for the London Mayor results. Over the border Labour gained 4 seats on Exeter Council taking 30 of the 39 seats.

The residents of St Ives have voted unanimously against desperately needed homes being used as second homes. A fifth of Homes in St Ives are used for this purpose. Many villages across Cornwall such as St Just in Roseland and St Merryn have already suffered from high levels of second home ownership.

Only Labour will stand up for working people

Vote Labour on Thursday, vote for Gareth Derrick for Police & Crime Commissioner.

David Cameron and the Conservatives cannot be trusted. They’ve failed to make sure the richest pay their fair share of tax. They are attacking our public services. And, they have failed to meet their own economic targets.

So stand up this Thursday and send a message to the Conservatives - vote Labour.

Clare Moody, South West Labour MEP, reported that the EU adopts Labour proposals for tax transparency, including country-by-country reporting and list of tax havens.

The European Commission announced new proposals to tackle tax dodging by multinational corporations, including public country-by-country reporting and a common list of tax havens - following my Labour MEP colleagues report that was voted through in the European Parliament in December last year.

By making companies publicly declare where they make their profits and where they pay their tax, we can force them into playing by the rules throughout Europe. And the new list of tax havens, which will be based on objective criteria, will ensure greater transparency - all activity in places like Panama will need to be disclosed.

This announcement is another excellent example of the EU showing its value and an amazing step forward in the fight against tax avoidance and evasion.

It is welcome news that the Commission has reversed its proposals to only include EU countries. One of the main measures we called for was the establishment of an objective list agreed to by all within the EU, and accompanied by harsh EU sanctions.

About 300 supporters turned up at Treliske to join the Junior Doctor s striking over a new contract that the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, wants to impose on them. They believe that the new contract is both unsafe and unfair. Supporters include people from Trade Unions, Labour, Anti Cuts Alliance, families and friends of the hospital.

The public showed their support noisily by honking as they drove by the picket line and also and the demonstrators marched to Lemon Quay.

After discussing with people throughout the region their concerns about policing he commented, “There is a clear need to restore effective local-based policing, focused on crime risks that are changing rapidly and that vary from place to place. I am determined to modernise the police workforce and introduce new technology to ensure an ongoing visible presence, and provide the skills to address the complex challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s crime. Domestic abuse, sexual and other violent crimes, child sexual exploitation and rapidly increasing and worrying internet based crime are doing so much harm to our society. The most vulnerable and disadvantaged in society must get their fair share of policing."
