Gerald Chin-Quee standing in Penwerris for Falmouth Town Council
I was raised in Old Hill where I live today, a council tenant content to live amongst the people I would represent if elected. It also puts me at the heart of the community, which is where I should be. I raised my son as a single parent, which gives me an understanding of the issues felt by many parents struggling to bring up children.
I have good experience of serving on the Town Council having been a Councillor for 16 years. I also did a term as County Councillor and Deputy Mayor. I stood down due to work commitments, which have now abated.
In 2012 I was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Honours list. It was a very proud day for me and flattering to think people would nominate me for doing what I believe in.
I was Chairman of the Dracaena Centre for 20 years, led the then Carrick Housing and went on to be Vice Chairman of Cornwall Housing. I have also been Vice-Chairman of the Beacon Partnership.
I steered the Take Pride in Falmouth initiative to tidy our town and led Falmouth to become the first Fairtrade town in Cornwall. I was a member of the Old Hill Community Association. I have also worked on the Annual Community Fun Day and organised floats, when we could have them, in Falmouth Carnivals.
