Truro and Falmouth Labour Party are hosting a discussion forum on Socialism and Democracy.
For most of the 20th century the word socialism was associated with totalitarian regimes. For the neoliberal right, free markets necessarily lead to free and fair elections. Both Stalinist ruling elites and capitalist ruling elites spread the same idea - that socialism is the enemy of democracy.
Yet from our earliest beginnings in the Chartist movement, organised labour has always been at the forefront of democratic struggles.
So what does it mean to be a democratic socialist? Is democratic socialism possible?
This discussion forum will look back at the history of our movement and some of the classic debates about the role of Parliament and direct action.
You are welcome to bring children but please let us know beforehand so we can put some arrangements in place for them.
This is a public event - non-Labour Party members are very welcome.
