Call out for Education funding lobby
Lobby against school funding cuts
11.30 Friday 27th October
It. in Truro. All welcome. Bring placards and children.
Sarah Newton MP has recently boasted that her government is increasing funding for the schools in Truro and Falmouth constituency. Either she cannot count or she is deliberately misleading the public.
According to her own figures, schools will receive a boost of 3.8% by 2019/20. But with inflation running at 3.9%, this amounts to cutting the schools budget by more than 4% over these 2 years. Our figures suggest £3.3 million cuts.
Cuts like these mean larger class sizes, more unqualified staff teaching our children, less provision for the most vulnerable and poorer quality education all round.
We will be lobbying Sarah Newton to demand that she comes good on her election promise for a real increase in schools funding. We want to ensure she understands the impact of her government's cuts on teachers' lives and our children's futures.
Meet 11.30, Friday 27th October outside The Palace Buildings, Quay Street, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 2HE.
