Creeping privatisation. We must say 'No' to ACOs.

Yesterday protesters in Truro called for sweeping changes to the way the NHS is run in Cornwall to be scrapped.

I think John Furze sums up ACOS well, "WHY THE ACOs ARE SUCH A CONCERN: ACOs derive from the USA's enormously expensive public/private healthcare systems. With their advent we, the public and taxpayers, will face having to pay increasingly for our healthcare costs. To get prompt, accessible treatment we will have to pay for it out of our own pockets and/or pay for health insurance.

Those of us who can't pay will face care rationing, delays, care denial and suffering for ourselves and those who matter to us. High risk patients, the sickness-prone and elderly, will face exclusion from care." Sign the petition and get out on 7th of Feb to protest against the ACOs.

Today Ian Wonnacott from Big up The NHS network posted on Save NHS Cornwall Facebook page. He said, "speaking on Radio Four last week, the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust’s CEO, Susan Acott, questioned the core NHS principle of universal healthcare free at the point of use after it was revealed the health service overspent its budget by a record £2.45 billion in 2015-16.' IT DIDN'T OVERSPEND, IT WAS UNDERFUNDED !!!!!"

"She suggested the NHS may have to start charging patients for its services," wrote Simon Allin in his article Manager of NHS Trust in the Gravesend Reporter on Monday 23 May.

In the recent Sustainability & Transformation Plan (STP) ‘consultation’ (I use the word loosely) held in Falmouth on 16/01/2017 a point of order arose which may be of some interest for hose of us sceptical of the ability of the proposed STP changes to deliver the promised £264 million’s-worth of cuts without damaging overall health & social care provision throughout the county.

The NHS is in crisis due to 6 years of underfunding. The biggest cuts are yet to come. Cornwall's Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) outlines £264 million cuts to health and social care in the next 4 years. If you did not have a head for figures you would be forgiven for thinking that Cornwall's Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) heralds in a brighter and healthier future for the people of Cornwall. But hidden amidst the spin about “taking control”, “golden opportunities” and “improving the quality of health and social care services” is £264 million cuts.

At least they could be honest. It’s so irritating when the Tories seek to pull the wool over our eyes. Over the weekend the Red Cross stated that the, “British health care services was facing an humanitarian crisis.” Those are words used for war-torn countries. At 8.10am this morning on BBC Radio 4 Jeremy Hunt outlined how he wanted to overhaul the mental health system. Where will the funding come from? Thin air, he’s expecting existing services to cover the cost and carry the burden. This, whilst extolling the greatness of the British health system.
