Hi, I’m 31 and have lived in the Falmouth/Penryn area most of my life (I had a brief flirtation across the Tamar during University) and there is nowhere else that I’d rather be!

As a teacher’s husband with a 4-year-old son set to start school in September, I am extremely passionate about the state of our education services.

It may be a well-worn cliché, but the children really are our future. How can we thrive as a community if our education system is crippled by budget cuts and our children are lost amongst the sea of enormous class sizes?

Through my work in a local bank, I see the struggles people are experiencing everyday thanks to the extortionate utility bills and private rents that we experience in Cornwall. I firmly believe that Labours plans to nationalise water, energy and railways, combined with holding private landlords to account, is of vital importance to countless people living in our community.

Finally, over recent years we have seen a dramatic increase in the local student population. Whilst I do believe this is a positive thing for the local economy, there is no denying that many local residents feel ‘put out’ by this dramatic influx. As a result, I firmly believe the Penryn Neighbourhood Plan is a vital initiative that gives us, the local community, the power to develop and improve Penryn in a way that benefits all of us.

I originally came to Penryn for a PhD exploring marine renewable energy and fell in love with the people and the place. Over five years later, I am still here working as a researcher for the University of Exeter on coastal environments and human wellbeing projects.

I get to see firsthand the scientific, economic and cultural contributions of the staff and students at the universities to communities locally, throughout Cornwall and further afield.

However, development must be balanced and beneficial for all. By being a part of our town council I hope to aid in driving forward a Neighbourhood Plan that protects our community, and its environment, whilst opening the right doors to opportunities for progress and development.

I am passionate about open democracy so will also publicise what goes on in the council and want to hear your views and ideas.
