Stuart Roden standing in Truro Trehaverne for Cornwall Council
I have lived in Truro for over 30 years 12 years in the Trehaverne ward. I originally worked in the NHS after leaving college and was a member of a district health authority before moving to Cornwall. I worked for a national trades union for over 30 years based in Truro and have a detailed knowledge of the Council and NHS. I represent the regional TUC locally. I have been a member of Truro City council for more than 25 years. I have served on the main committees of the council and chaired both the Parks and Finance committees. I was honoured to serve as Mayor of Truro in 2005/6. I'm involved in various local and county-wide organisations and have been a member of the Truro Labour party for over 30 years.
I have campaigned on health and social care issues during my whole working life in Cornwall. We ran a successful campaign to stop Cornwall county council closing residential homes. Mountford and Redannick are still providing first class care to this day. I met with Health Minister, Frank Dobson, in 1998 and prevented the closure of Cornwall's community hospitals. I have campaigned against numerous privatised contracts with both the Council and NHS, with the BT Cornwall contract being terminated last year.
I believe that I bring significant experience and expertise to the role of councillor which would enable me to successfully represent Trehaverne ward on Cornwall and Truro City council.
